Getting Creative with Birthday Sessions, Dallas -Ft. Worth Lifestyle Photography

When it comes to milestone or birthday photos, it seems the sessions are easy when our kiddos are little, but as they get bigger, creativity seems to hit the highway.  Now, before I proceed I don't recommend breaking the law to get a stellar portrait session, but I am always up for something new.

For this cutie's third birthday photos, his Mama came to me with an idea that I couldn't help but get on board with right away.  Her little man loves all things heavy equipment and dirt related, so she asked about shooting at a construction site.

We planned for a Sunday, and the photos turned out amazing. Every photo I edited made me smile because of how happy he was to be doing something he loved.

No one knows your kiddo like you do, so if you have a vision or the start of vision lets work together to bring it to fruition the best we can!

Without further ado, here are some of my favorites from this cute little construction session.  To book a birthday session for your little visit the about me page.

Enjoy!

Client Home Lifestyle Session, Dallas-Ft. Worth Family Photography

Are your family photos in need of a serious update, but you are afraid you just don't have the time or the patience to dress the kids, load them up and last through a whole photography session? Not too mention this crazy Texas weather always presents a location challenge. Well, I just might have the answer to your common, very common photography problem. Schedule the session in your home!! Hold on, hold on, before you start freaking out about cleaning the whole house, there is no need for that. Well unless you want me to take photos of the whole house, but the following are some of my favorites taken during a lifestyle portrait session in a client home on their couch. The photos turned out gorgeous and everyone was happy during the session.  Mom and Dad had a little glass of wine to sip on, the kids were playing happily when they weren't needed for pictures and there was even football on in the background. Eazy peasy.  All I need is some nice natural light and space to shoot the photos. Want photos of the kids playing together? Done. Want a fun singing and dancing in the kitchen while making pancakes portriat? Let's do it!  I would love to bring your vision to life.

My Top 5 Tips for a Smooth Photo Session

I get asked all the time if I have any tips for a smooth session. While every photography session can be unpredictable depending on the age of the kiddos, there are a few universal rules that I think apply across the board. So here they are, my top five tips to reduce the stress of family photography. :)

1. RELAX! You as the Momma Bird are the indicator for the rest of the tribe. If you are stressed, the kiddos will probably be crazy. I know that in my house the more stressed I am, the more my lovely darlings act like loony birds.  So Mama, just relax. Breathe in and breathe out.  Afterall, we are only taking photographs.

2. Have Fun! Pictures are supposed to showcase the best version of you and your family, I mean you got the special outfits, got dolled up and showed up to pose in nature. Be silly, tell jokes, make each other laugh. It will make your photos 10 times better, I promise.

3. Rest. This is an important one, I know that our lives are crazy but the more well-rested everyone is, the better our time together will be. This is for everyone, but especially for the littles. If you can schedule after naps, or what I refer to as the pre-cracken time, then let's do it.  You know your kiddos, if they are happier in the mornings schedule a morning session, late risers schedule later in the day.

4. Feed the beast. Along with rest, this is a big one.  Make sure everyone is fed before the session. We all know what hangry is and nothing is worse than a cranky hungry person being forced to smile. So eat before, bring a snack or whatever you got to do to keep hangriness at bay.

5. Bribery. Yes, I said it. If your little sunshine is old enough to be bribed then I am going to recommend this controversial method. I mean you get a cooperative kid for a bit and they get a prize. Win-win. Now if your little isn't old enough for trickery, bring a favorite toy, a Nana, Grampy or aunty Suzie.
